How to Clean a Gameboy Game 2022

A while back I picked up this Gameboy Game at a local shop, and for a while it worked great, but recently, my Gameboy Advance couldn't read the cartridge. I've repaired a couple of cartridges before, and by the end of this, yours, and hopefully mine, should work perfectly.

Supplies you will need:

  1. 91% Isopropyl alcohol, no less.
  2. A couple of Cue tips.
  3. A 3.8 Gamebit Screwdriver (I recommend iFixit)
  4. A cup to hold your alcohol
  5. Something to store your screws.

Step One: Prepare the Operating Table.

Get your supplies together, clean off your workspace.

pour a few drops of Isopropyl alcohol into a small bowl or medicine cup.

Step 2: Make the Incision.

Take your Gamebit Screw driver to the screw on the back of the cartridge.

As some of you know, Nintendo used the Gamebit screws on their cartridges for a while so they would be hard to modify. Unfortunately, your dad's old tool box probably doesn't have one of those. Some prefer to buy a dedicated screw driver for this, but if you ask me, iFixit is the way to go. I personally use the Moray Driver kit, and trust me, it's worth the $20. However, it's your choice.

Slide the face of the cartridge down to expose the circuit board.

REMINDER: Store Your Screws Where You Won't Lose Them.

Don't want those bad boys getting away.

Step 4: Clean the Contacts

Lightly soak, not douse, but soak the Cue Tip in 91% Isoprpyl alcohol, then go across the shiny contacts at the bottom. Let it stand for a few minutes.

Step 5: Reassembly.

After it dries, close the cartridge together, put the screw back in, pop it into your Gameboy, and it should work!
