In this instructable you will learn how to make sure a bike is in top condition before buying/riding your bike. It is easy and is only a few steps.

Steering

Steering is one of the most vital parts/functions/controls of your bike. Without steering where can you go? Steering includes the handle bars, and the front wheels. There are other parts in the steering, but this step would take a while to make if I went into detail. Make sure that there is no dirt or debris first of all. Then you have too make sure that you have oil or it will damage the bike to turn the handlebars. Brakes are also vital to steering but we will get to that later.

Tires & Wheels!

Tire & Pegs.JPG

These are probably the most important parts of the bike. Without these your bike is useless!!! To make sure these are safe is easy, all you have to do is put both of your thumbs on the tire, then with your whole body weight push down on the tire. If you can push down all the way you either have a leak in the tire or you need to use an air pump to pump it up! Pump it up till you can not push down on the tire, as some people say, "rock solid." To check that the wheels are okay, you have to make sure that none of the pegs are broken. Pegs can be welded to the tire if they are broken off. Make sure that you always have a tire repair kit in case you tire bursts during a rid. You also have to make sure you put some oil on the axis of the wheel, or you're bike will break a lot faster! Make sure that There is NO rocks or debris in the brakes because then it will be harder to pedal and your brakes will break!

The Seat

The seat is the easiest to make sure it is safe. Make sure that the seat is the right size and is comfortable. The seat also has to be the right height that suits you. The definition of the right height is all your toes touch the ground, not too high and not too low! Thats all there is about the seat!

Brakes

The brakes are another easy part. Make sure they are not worn out or jammed with debris. You also have to make sure that the cables are not frayed, if the cable gets frayed then you cannot use the brakes! That would be horrible... Another way that the brakes wouldn't work is if the brake is detached from the holster. Make sure that you can pull the brake "trigger". Once you have done this you have finished checking the brakes!

The Gears

The gears (if you have any...) are very important. Make sure your gears are well oiled/greased. Make sure that the gear shaft is not missing any parts e.g. springs, gears, cables.
