How to Change and Outlet | Integrated LED Night Light

In this video I’ll show you how to change an outlet with a new outlet with an integrated LED nightlight. I’ll show you how to turn the breaker off, remove the faceplate, remove the old outlet and then install the new one.
The new outlet has an LED night light with an ambient light sensor and adjustable brightness. I have these things all over my home.

Supplies
-New outlet
-Flat Head Screwdriver
-Wire Cutters
-Wire Strippers
Turn the Breaker Off

Identify and turn off the breaker for the outlet you're working on. Working with electricity is dangerous, if you are uncomfortable doing this sort of work, call an electrician.
Remove Face Plate

Remove the screws on the face plate and pull it off the wall.
Remove Outlet

Remove the outlet screws and pull it off the wall. I find it is easier and faster to just cut the wires close to the outlet and then remove the old outlet.
Strip Wire

Using wire strippers, strip the black and white wire about 3/4" from the end. Now use needle nose pliers to curl over the bare part of all three wires to prepare them to be installed on the terminals.
Install New Outlet

Put the wires over the terminals and tighten the screws. The white wires are the neutral wires and they go to the silver terminals, the black wires are the hot wires and they go to the gold terminals. The bare wire is the ground wire and it goes to the ground terminal.
Push the the wire back into the box and screw the outlet back on. Be sure it is straight before installing the faceplate.
Install New Face Plate

Put the new face plate over the outlet and tighten the screws.
Pro Tip: For a professional look, the slots in the screws should be vertical.
Turn Breaker Back On

Flip the breaker back to the on position.
Test

Plug something in to confirm the outlet is working.
Enjoy your the look and function of your new outlet!
