How to Change a Tire
The tires on your vehicle encounter a lot of wear and tear. After some time, it's normal for them to go flat. It's important to know how to change a tire so you can make sure you can safely get to a shop to get your tire replaced or fixed.
Supplies
- Vehicle supplied or personal jack
- Lug wrench
- Tire
- Optional: torque wrench
Park Your Vehicle in a Safe Location
Pull your vehicle somewhere that you can safely change the tire and ensure the parking brake is engaged.
Gather Vehicle Maintenance Supplies
Place Wheel Block Behind the Wheel
Place a wheel block/chock behind the opposite tire that isn't being changed. Ex: If you're changing the front tire, place the block behind the back wheel so the car doesn't start rolling.
Break the Lug Nuts Loose With the Lug Wrench
Lift the Corner of the Vehicle With the Jack
See your manufactures' make and model for safe locations to jack your vehicle.
Unscrew the Lug Nuts Using the Wrench
Rotate the wrench in a counterclockwise motion until the lug nuts can be removed.
Grab the Wheel of the Tire and Remove It
Grab the Spare Tire and Place It Onto the Wheel Hub
Screw the Lug Nuts Back on Using the Wrench
Screw the lug nuts back on in a clockwise motion.
