What do you do when soda cans just aren't in huge supply? Can you still build a realistic, decent looking soda can airplane? Supplies

Six clean, undented soda cans

2mm Craft foam

Hobby Knife

5 inch precision scissors

Loctite Super Glue Gel or equivalent adhesive

Rounding tool such as a wooden dowel

Fine Tipped Sharpie

Ruler or straight edge

Templates/Plans available from provided link

Make the Fuselage Base

Use the template provided to trace and cut out the fuselage base as shown in the photos and videos. Reinforce the underside of the of the fuselage base with two pieces of can material until the piece sits completely flat as shown. The completed piece should look as shown in the last photo.

Complete the Fuselage Base

As seen in the photos and video, use the template provided to trace and cut out the fuselage base from 2mm craft foam. Alternately you can use cardboard instead if you don't have foam. Glue the foam or cardboard piece to the under side of the can fuselage base as shown.

Lower Fuselage Parts A/B

Trace and cut out the lower fuselage parts A and B. Cut the slits on each piece as shown in the photos and video and glue along the slits on a slight overlap so the pieces are slightly curved along the leading edge. Reinforce the underside of each piece with can on the areas indicated in the photos and video.

Completing the Fuselage

As seen in the photos and video, glue a strip of 2mm craft foam over the center of the existing foam piece. Next, glue the first lower fuselage piece into position as indicated, then glue the second piece into position as shown in the photos and video.

Upper Fuselage/cockpit Piece

Use the template provided to trace and cut out the Upper fuselage/cockpit piece. Make all of the cuts in the piece as indicated in the photos and video. Use a wooden dowel or other similar rounding tool to round the piece as shown. As seen in the photos and video, glue along each of the slits on a slight overlap to form the piece. Next, glue 2mm craft foam to the underside of the piece along the edges. Use the template provided to trace and cut out the canopy window template. Round the piece and glue to the front of the upper fuselage/canopy piece as seen in the photos and video. Finally, glue the upper fuselage/canopy into position on the top of fuselage base in the position indicated.

Engine Pieces A/B

As shown in the photos and videos, use the templates provided to trace and cutout Engine A and Engine B. Next, make the cuts on each piece as shown in the photos and video. Glue on a slight overlap on each of the cuts to form the Engines. Glue strips of 2mm craft foam along the edges on the underside of each engine piece as seen in the photos and video. Finally, glue the engines to either side of the upper fuselage/canopy piece as indicated.

For some added detail, you can glue some strips of silver or gray can right behind both engines to simulate the B-2 Bomber’s exhaust ports as seen in the photos and video.
