How to Build a Simple Bookshelf

This is a simple Bookshelf I made using a few materials.

Gather Materials

For this project you will need the following materials:

2 pieces of 1in-8in-4ft wooden planks

4 1/2in-8in black pipes

4 1/2in galvanized Floor Flanges

4 1/2in galvanized caps

16 dry wall anchors

16 1-1/2in screws

Cutting the Wood

I cut my wood into 39 1/2inches, but you could measure the wall in order to find the perfect length for your wooden planks for your bookshelf.

Staining the Wood

After you have finished cutting the wooden planks. I recommend staining the wood before moving on to the next step. I used Minway wood finish, because it gives a great color and drys decently fast.

Black Pipes

After you have finished staining the wood, grab the black pipes and galvanized caps. Twist the galvanized caps and floor flanges onto either side of the pipes.

Dry Wall Anchors

After you have setup the black pipes, drill 4 holes into the wall and place the dry wall anchors into the holes. Then you can line up the black pipes and the anchors so that you can screw the floor flange side of the pipe into the wall. Once you have completed the first one repeat this for the rest of the black pipes.

Place the Wood

Once you have completed screwing the black pipes into the wall, you are ready to get your wooden planks and lay them onto the pipes. If you want extra support you could get some 1/2in EMT mounts and screw them into the wood around the black pipes.
