How to Boot Windows 7 in a USB Drive (Windows PE LiveCD or LiveUSB)

Windows Preinstallation Environment (also known as Windows PE and WinPE) is a lightweight version of Windows
used for the deployment of PCs, workstations, and servers, or troubleshooting an operating system while it is offline. It is intended to replace MS-DOS boot disks and can be booted via USB flash drive, PXE, iPXE,[1] CD-ROM, or hard disk. Traditionally used by large corporations and OEMs (to preinstall Windows client operating systems on PCs during manufacturing), it is now widely available free of charge via the Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK).

WinPE was originally intended to be used only as a pre-installation
platform for deploying Microsoft Windows operating systems, specifically to replace DOS in this respect. WinPE has the following uses:

Deployment of workstations and servers in large corporations as well as pre-installation by system builders of workstations and servers to be sold to end users.Recovery platform to run 32-bit or 64-bit recovery tools such as Winternals ERD Commander or the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE).Platform for running third-party 32-bit or 64-bit disk cloning utilities. The package can be used for developer testing or as a recovery CD/DVD for system administrators. Many customized WinPE boot CDs packaged with third-party applications for different uses are now available from volunteers via the Internet.

The package can also be used as the base of a forensics investigation to either capture a disk image or run analysis tools without mounting any available disks and thus changing state.[2]

Version 2.0 introduced a number of improvements[3] and extended the availability of WinPE to all customers, not just corporate enterprise customers by downloading and installing Microsoft's Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK).

It was originally designed and built by a small team of engineers in Microsoft's Windows Deployment team, including Vijay Jayaseelan, Ryan Burkhardt, and Richard Bond.[4]

First, Read this to know What is Windows PE

Ok, so, This is the tools that you need to make Windows PE :

1. Make_PE3 or Winbuilder

2. Windows 7 Installation CD

in this Instructables, i will shows you how to use Make_PE3 to create Windows PE

Now, You need to Mount the Windows 7 AIO file to make the Windows 7 PE

(Right-Click to the ISO >then> PowerISO >then> Mount to Drive (your poweriso virtual drive, ex: Mount to Drive G: )

After you Mount the ISO Image, then you need to Install the Make_PE3 Program (or you can call it builder, creator, etc)

NOTE :

Please make sure that you Extracted the "Make_PE3" Application in your C: Drive to make this program working Correctly

and you will see the files (see the extracted picture)

set the program like this :

~Windows 7 Source : Windows 7 Source is Your Mounted Windows 7 ISO Image that where the required files will copied to Working Directory

I Recommend that you keep the defaults in Architecture setting , WINDOWS AIK Tools bla bla bla settings

ok , then you Change the "EXP" to Whatever you Want (Keep it to EXP , or BS or MIN or Media)

after that , you can enable if you want to add "Adobe F" or "NetFrame"

After you do all Previous step , then you can Click "GO" button to Make the ISO

you can do something else to wait the progress to complete

i listening to music while the progress do the task :D :D :)

After the Progress Complete, you will see "End of Program bla bla bla" Window (Read and Click "OK")

When you find the ISO, You can find it at "C:\Make_PE3\win7pe_x86" or Click HERE (if you make x86 build, i build the x86)

LOOK !!! The ISO is 304 MB Sized !! :D :D , as in the Wikipedia Said "Windows PE is a Lightweight version of Windows)

so it's not strange if it 304MB sized :)

Look It's Running :D :D Now you can Backup your Data in your Harddisk Before you Reinstall your Device !

Just Boot it From CD or USB (i recommend USB) (Make the USB Bootable using Rufus, find it yourself!)

and Backup your data :D

even in a computer/laptop that doesn't have any OS (or Not Installed yet) , the WinPE is Working correctly

i have test it for :

~Listening Music without OS (Using WinPE USB)

~Watching a Movie

~Chating (connect via WiFI)

~Ngaheureuyan batur (Sundanese for "Pranking my friend")

~Re-Installing Windows + Watch Insidious 3 (i added MPC to my WinPE) + Chatting at a same time

etc
