How to (Not) Build a Menorah the Hutt

This year I had planned to make my girlfriend a menorah that fit her personality perfectly. Last year I saw a Menorah the Hutt posted posted by Former Jalopnik Editor Ray Wert and I knew it had to be. This was the menorah for her! Unfortunately, it also turned out to be a fire hazard. Follow along as I show you how dumb I am and how I almost burned my apartment down to the ground. Please make sure to also vote for my Instuctable in the Epic Fails Contest. Thank you!

Gathering the Materials

The materials I used to make this tinderbox was:

1. A Jabba the Hutt figure

2. A drill

3. Drill bits

4. Menorah Candles

Space Out and Drill

I'm a visual person so I really needed to space out where the candles were before I would drill the holes. To do this I used some screws and just stuck them partly in and took a step back to see the results. They looked perfect first try, so I simply backed them out and drilled the permanent holes.

Now, just stuff your candles in the holes and you're ready to set your home on fire!

Light It Up!

Now we just lit it up and sat back to enjoy the first night of Hanukkah. We sat there and basked in it's glow for 10 minutes. At that point, we needed to finish up some chores, so we both went and did our own thing.

20 minutes later I popped my head back into the living room and saw Jabba with his head engulfed in flames and black smoke everywhere! Han Solo must have dropped another shipment! That, or the candles burned down to the point where it lit the flamable plastic.

What I Learned

A. Never leave the room when there is a flame going.

B. In the original Menorah the Hutt, there were little wooden stands. I don't know what they do, other than holding the candle, but maybe they'll prevent another fire from happening. I'll have to research more before I try again next year....
