How To: Monkey Fist Necklace

Here I will explain how to make a Monkey Fist Necklace. If you want the instructions in a playable picture format, visit these links. I used a variation of the monkey fist shown, and a double fisherman's bend to connect.

You will need:
-Rope with a medium thickness (I used about 5 1/2 ft of paracord)
-A marble
-Patience (it took me about 3 tries to get this right)

Start by finding about 1/4 of your rope. You will start there. Wrap the rope around your fingers twice, then loop around.

Wrap the rope around the coils you made. There should be three.

Now thread the rope through the holes and around the coils you made in step 3.

Now stick the marble inside the coils.

Now pull on the coils one at a time and tighten them so you get a ball like shown.

If you notice, you may get uneven strings. To fix that, measure 1/2 if the rope, then pull that length of rope into a loop then thread through and pull the shorter rope to make it longer. Repeat as necessary.

If you have a complete monkey first and roughly even strings, move on. If not, try it again.

Overlap the two ends. Wrap one end around both ropes two full turns. Then pass this end back through these turns and pull tight. Next pass the other end two full turns around both ropes. Pass this end back through and pull tight. Pull on both ropes to tighten the two knots against each other.
