How to Make a Latchhook Knot
Latch-hooking is a simple form of knitting using a special latch-hook needle and short strands of yarn. Typically, latch-hooking is done on a canvas grid and can be used to create endless designs. Latch-hook creations can be used as pictures, pillows, and blankets. This instructable will explain how to make a latch-hook knot. It is through these knots that an image or design is created. The needle is not sharp or dangerous, making this a fun and risk-free activity. These instructions do not cover how to convert the final product into a pillow, blanket, etc.
Gather Your Materials
Here are some materials you'll need:
1. Latch-hook needle
2. Colored yarn (whichever color you prefer)
3. Latch-hook grid
4. Your imagination
Latch-Hook Terms:
Hook: the part of the needle at the top that curves down like an upside-down fish hook
Latch: the swinging lever below the hook, it remains in the down position unless manually held up. The latch does not lock closed.
Wrap the Yarn
Insert Needle
Put the needle into one of the squares in the grid. Make sure it goes in past the latch, but don't put the yarn through
Hook the Yarn
This part can get a bit tricky. Pull the yarn up so that the ends are between the latch and the hook. You will have to keep your finger on the yarn until you pull the needle in the next step. Make sure the latch is open during this step.
