How to Make a Birdfeeder From a Pine Cone.

pineconefeeder.jpg
Birds have fascinated people for thousands of years. During the winter, it becomes harder for birds to find food. You can help them this winter by putting up pine cone feeders. If you watch them long enough, you might even see a visitor stopping by to have a snack!

(NOTE- DO NOT ATEMPT IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO P-NUTS, P-NUT BUTTER, OR ANY OTHER NUTS. IF YOU ATTEMPT THIS INSTRUCTABLE AND HAVE A RASH OR A BRECKOUT, SEE A DOCTOR IMENDENTLY. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS INSTRUCTABLE. )

This is my first Instructable!

Step 1- Gather Materials

You will need:

-Birdseed (I bought a mixed bag from Tractor Supply for $5)
-Peanut Butter (Creamy)
-Pine cones
-Ortamit hooks (useful for hanging pinecones)
-String (Self explanitory)
-Hot Glue Gun (To glue string in)
-Pan (To pour birdseed in)
-Spoon (To rub on P-Nut Butter)

Optional:

-Glitter Glue (decorations)
-Decorational Stars

Step 2- Open the P-nut Butter and Pour Some Birdseed Into the Pan.

First, open the P-Nut Butter. Second, pour some birdseed into the pan. Get the pine cones ready.

Step 3- Spread P-Nut Butter on Pine Cone.

Use the spoon to spoon out P-Nut Butter and wipe it on the pine cones. This creates a stickyness that the birdseed will easily stick to. Birds love it too! Note- Do NOT cover the top of the pine cone with p-nut butter. You will not be able to hot glue the string to the pine cone.

Step 4- Add the Birdseed to the Buttered Pine Cones.

Now for the fun part: Roll the pinecone(s) in the birdseed. (In the pan of course). Get them as full as you can with birdseed.

Step 5- Adding String

My string was fishing line. You can use what you like, I just had line around my house. Cut a lenght of string. Tie a knot with both ends in it to make a loop. (1st picture) Then place the knoted end into the top of the pine cone. Hot glue it there.

Step 6- Optional Decorating

If you want to add a star, hot glue it while you hot glue the loop. You have to hold it in place to keep it from falling. To add glitter, select a color and put it on the end of the indevidual "stem" things comming out of the pine cone. Have fun decorating!

Step 7- Hanging the Pine Cones

If you have to, put a hook though the loop to aid in hanging. Observe your yard and hang them were you normally see bird traffic. Don't limit yourself to those select areas. Hang them everywhere if you want! (Added pics.)

Step 8- Other Ideas

-Don't limit yourselve to one type of birdseed. Have a variety of different birdseed types for different birds.

-Watch them. Lots.

-If you have any ideas, pm me.

-Have fun!

(I am working on taking pictures of the birds at my pine cone feeders. I will post them here.)
