How to Make the Super Stratojagger Paper Airplane

Fast, long range and simple, the Super Stratojagger is a capable paper airplane able to fly nicely for all origami aviators, new and old. Like the similarly configured but more elaborate Vigilante, the Super Stratojagger can fly at high speed but also glide at a slower speeds after climbing. For this reason, (combined with its simplicity in construction), the Super Statojagger is an excellent aircraft for those with limited experience or those unsure of the type of aircraft they wish to make.

The Super Stratojagger was developed from its namesake, the now ancient Stratojagger, as a follow-on to the UltraSabre which had also been developed as a capable but simple aircraft. In spite of its focus on simplification, the UltraSabre required the use of scissors. After publishing the UltraSabre, I decided an even simpler aircraft could be designed that dispensed with the need for scissors as well. I decided to base the new design on the Stratojagger, which was a four year old design by this point; to modernize it, the angle of incidence was changed to allow the wing to parallel the bottom of the fuselage. This change simplified construction and improved the performance of the aircraft on landing and when it was not in flight. The design proved itself capable in flight testing and was approved for publication in early June.

Fold your paper in half along its length, then pull one corner down to the opposite side of the paper as shown. Repeat on the other side. Pull the paper down over itself as shown and crease, then unfold. Fold along its length again, then pull the corners down to the center crease. Once this is done, pull the creases of the corner folds down to the center crease as well.

Pull the nose fold open along existing creases made earlier, as shown. Once pulled out sufficiently, make creases along the edges of the paper. After this is done, pull the paper forward until the edge of the fold is reached and crease at that point. After completing this, pull the triangular section back over itself and crease. Then tuck the fold into themselves as pictured.

Measure 0.75 inches above the center crease along the trailing edge and make a mark, then 0.75 inches in from the wingtip along the trailing edge and make another mark. After theses marks are made, fold at these points and align the trailing edge of the wings with that of the fuselage and the trailing edges of the winglets with the trailing edges of the wings. After doing this, fold the stabilizers in the nose section and tape where directed. This will complete your airplane.

The Super Stratojagger is a fairly versatile airplane that handles similarly to the Vigilante paper airplane. Launches should be done at neutral attitude at a moderate to fast speed. Additional applicable surfaces include ailerons, elevators, elevons, slats, flaps and air brakes. Enjoy!
