How to Make a Cool Pet Rock

Today I'm going to be showing you how to make a super cool pet rock!

You will need:

  1. A rock
  2. A red marker or sharpie
  3. Googly eyes
  4. Glue (Glue stick works best)
  5. Pipe cleaners
  6. Scissors

Ok, lets make this!

Step 1: Finding the Rock

Go outside to a place maybe a little bit into the woods and find a rock about the size of a lemon. Also make sure that one side is fairly flat.

Step Two: Washing the Rock

After being outside for about 1,000,000 years your rock will probably want to be washed off. So just run it under some water in the sink and dry it off extremely well. Now we can go on to the next step!

Step Three: Googly Eyes

Bring vision to your rock by taking your glue and making two little dots where the eyes should be. Now firmly press the googly eyes down. I used two different sized ones, but it doesn't matter. Make sure not to touch them, they're still drying!

Step Four: Hair

As you probably noticed your rock has a huge bald spot. Lets fix that by taking about three different colored pipe cleaners and cutting them into about 1 1/2 inch segments. You could make them different sizes, but I didn't. Then fold down the bottom of the segments a little so it looks like a thin "L".

Step Five: Gluing the Hair

Now that you've made the hair, you should probably put it on. So on the top of your rock put a good thick layer of glue. This is why I used a glue stick because regular glue would probably just run down it's face. Now put your pipe cleaners on top and you should be good to go! You don't have to use all of them depending on the shape and size of your rock, but you should try to use a good amount.

Step Six: the Mouth!

This is probably the easiest step. Take your red marker or sharpie and draw a mouth right below the eyes and bam you're done.

Step Seven: Naming Your Rock

Every rock has to have a name! I named mine Petey, because I like that name. You can name yours whatever you want. Once you named it it's ready for whatever wild adventures you take it on. Be aware it's still very fragile so take extra good care of it!
