This instructable will show you how to enhance your photos in Adobe Lightroom by adjusting Exposure, Recovery, Fill LIght, and Blacks.
Step 1
![Screen Shot 2013-04-26 at 12.18.57 PM.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FLP/D6KR/HFWSTE8X/FLPD6KRHFWSTE8X.png&filename=Screen Shot 2013-04-26 at 12.18.57 PM.png)
Select the photo you wish to make some changes to.
Step 2

Click "Develop" next to "Library"
Step 3
![Screen Shot 2013-04-22 at 11.28.19 AM.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FDO/0Y8V/HFWSTEA2/FDO0Y8VHFWSTEA2.png&filename=Screen Shot 2013-04-22 at 11.28.19 AM.png)
Step 3: Look over your photo editing options, in the “Tone” category. These sliders are used for overall exposure and contrast adjustments.
Step 4 - Exposure
![Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.22.31 PM.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FG8/1F54/HFWSTDXZ/FG81F54HFWSTDXZ.png&filename=Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.22.31 PM.png)
![Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.23.07 PM.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FB8/VG45/HFSHEYFS/FB8VG45HFSHEYFS.png&filename=Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.23.07 PM.png)
The "Exposure" tool enhances the light or darkness of a photo. If you slide the tool to the right, it lightens everything. If you slide the tool to the left, it does the opposite and darkens your photo.
Step 5 - Recovery

![onetwo.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FQP/MJY7/HH2VFGXD/FQPMJY7HH2VFGXD.png&filename=onetwo.png)
The "Recovery" tool brings back and/or enhances details of your picture that were washed out or may not have been captured in the picture as much. It lightens or darkens the features of your photo in order to bring out the brightest parts of it. Recovery tool will decrease exposure values in the highlight areas.
Step 6 - Fill Light

![Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.30.09 PM.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FA7/BLO0/HFSH778L/FA7BLO0HFSH778L.png&filename=Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.30.09 PM.png)
The "Fill LIght" tool 'fills in' the darkest parts of your photo with light, and brightens them to bring them out and show more detail in these shadow areas.
Step 7 - Blacks
![Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.33.09 PM.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FNA/JO49/HFPTI79M/FNAJO49HFPTI79M.png&filename=Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.33.09 PM.png)
![Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.33.25 PM.png](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FVI/CIG3/HFSHUI8M/FVICIG3HFSHUI8M.png&filename=Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 12.33.25 PM.png)
The "Blacks" tool enhances any black that is featured in your photo and lightens or darkens those parts.
Step 8 - Export
