Take jeans and try them on. Once they are on use the marker to make lines where you want the distressing to be.

Step 3: STRIP!!!

Take off the jeans.

Step 4: Protection

Place the text book inside either jean leg that you are making the distress on. (WARNING) :If you don't do this then you will cut through the other side of the pant leg.

Step 6: Along the Lines

Cut a long the lines where you chose the area of distress. Make sure the cut is clean and straight or the distress area won't look right.

Step 7:Pluck

Use tweezers to pluck all of the vertical strands so that fringe is created. Fringe gives the jeans a more authentic distress look. You do not have to do this step if you do not want fringe on your jeans.

Step 8: Wash Jeans

You must wash the jeans so that the excess fringe and denim pieces are separated from the newly distressed jean. If you do not do this the jean will slowly fall apart from frequent wear and tare.

Step 9: Air Dry

After washing the jeans hang them up to air dry. This will stop your jeans from shrinking in the washer.
