How I Clean My Microwave

Here is my process for cleaning a microwave oven. The video is too large to post in Instructables, so here is a link to the video on my Pinterest page.

Supplies

For equipment, you will need:

  1. A microwave-safe bowl that will hold at least 2½ cups. I use the Pyrex mixing bowls I bought on Amazon (affiliate link).
  2. A measuring cup.
  3. A measuring spoon. These are my favorite measuring spoons because they fit into spice jars (Amazon affiliate link).
  4. A hot pad or mitt to handle the hot bowl.
  5. A clean microfiber cloth. I don't remember where I got mine, but you can get them at Dollar Tree.
  6. A dirty microwave.

For ingredients, you will need:

  1. 2 cups of clean water. I filter mine through a Pūr faucet filter that takes out the lead, among other things.
  2. 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar.

Mise En Place

Into the bowl, pour the water and the vinegar.

Place the Bowl

Put the bowl inside the microwave, then close the door.

Bring to a Boil

6 minutes.jpg

Run the microwave until the water boils. My water took 6½ minutes. YOUR TIME MAY VARY! Just run the oven long enough to get the water to boil.

Allow to Steam

15 minutes.jpg

Allow the bowl to sit in the closed microwave for 15 minutes. This will steam the inside of your oven. The picture is me setting a 15-minute kitchen timer; I am NOT running the microwave more.

Empty the Microwave

Using the hot pad, remove all the items from the microwave.

Wipe Clean

Use the microfiber cloth to wipe the entire insides of the oven, including the door. If the rotating plate needs it, wipe that as well.

Voilà!

You now have a clean microwave oven insides.
