Mechagodzilla Masterpiece: Space Titanium cyborg soda Can Upcycling!

Using a paper model pattern, that we found freely available online, we modified the pattern so it could be used with cans then began building a 17 inch tall soda can model of Mechagodzilla 1974. YouTube videos linked below show each of the main phases of construction: https://youtu.be/zsbnroA6ukE

Supplies

Loctite Super Glue Gel, Mechagodzilla paper model pattern found online, hobby knife, standard ruler, needle nose plyers, five inch precision scissors, ultra fine point marker and 36-48 clean, undented cans

Head Construction

Using the templates provided, we start building Mechagodzilla's head and neck. We use different color can to make the eyes, the head details and the nose pieces. We then move on to the neck assembly and add the head and neck spines.

Neck & Torso Construction

Using the templates provided, we move on to Mechagodzilla's main neck and torso structure. We start by constructing the shoulders and work our way down to the chest. We make sure to add the neck and torso spines along the rear axis of the model.

Waist & Leg Construction

Using the templates provided, we begin at the waist and work our way down each leg, carefully assembling each piece until we reach the ankle section of each leg. Once there, we start work on each foot, which consists of 6 pieces. We glue these together to form one foot then repeat to make the second foot. We then glue each foot to the ankle joint with some craft foam glued in between so the pieces adhere well.

Tail Assembly

Using the templates provided that we have modified for use with cans, we move onto the tail assembly. we glue each piece together in order then add the tail spines. We cap of the tail with the elongated tail spine.

Torso & Leg Assembly

At this point, we are ready to join the upper torso/head assembly with the waist and leg/foot assemblies. We use Hot glue to join both sections as shown.

Arm & Hand Assembly

Each of the arms is started next by assembling and gluing each piece in order until we reach the hand. We then assemble the hand and then glue on each of the fingers. We repeat the above steps to complete the second arm and hand. Finally we glue each arm into position on our soda can model, completing Soda can Mechagodzilla!
