In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to create a basic house model in 3DS Max.

Supplies

The supplies you will need are:

- 3DS MAX

Base

The first thing I did is use the Plane Create tool to create a plane. This is the floor of the house.

I then used the box tool to create the front wall of the house. To create the gaps for the windows/door you will:

Create a box through the wall that is the size of your window, click on the Standard Primitives drop down menu and select Compound Object, then select Boolean. With the wall selected, click Add Operands and select the box through the wall, then scroll down and select Subtract. This will create a window.

More Walls

Add more walls with the box tool to finish up the outside of your house. You can use the Modify tab to make them all the same height and width.

Interior Walls

Use the box tool to create interior walls. This will be the outline of the rooms. The interior walls in my example picture are highlighted. You can use the Boolean tool to create doorways and walkways.

Living Room

Now that we have our base layout, we can start on some details. To create the couch/chair, create a box roughly the size of a couch seat. Turn on Edged Faces, click the modify tab and adjust the length/width segments depending on how you want your couch to look. Click on the modifier list and select Edit Mesh. Select Polygon Selection and click on the sides/back of the top side of the couch. You can select multiple faces by holding command(on Mac). Scroll down to extrude to raise your arms/back to the desired height. Go to the modifier list again and select Mesh Smooth to give it a smooth look. This is how to create a couch or chair.

To create the TV stand, we will be using the same tools as the couch. Create a box, select edged faces, and give it your desired length/width segments, depending on how big you want the legs of the stand to be. Select Edit Mesh, Polygon Selection, and select the edges on the bottom of the box. Then use the Extrude tool to make the legs however long you want. This is how to create a TV stand

For the TV, we will be using the same concepts. Create a box the shape of a TV. Select Edged Faces, make enough room with your segments for an extrusion on the bottom. Select Edit Mesh, Polygon Selection, and select the a face on the bottom middle of the TV. Extrude it down to your desired length of TV stand, and select the Bevel tool right under Extrude. Give it a positive bevel for a TV stand look. This is how to create your TV. Put the TV on the actual TV stand obviously.

Create a carpet with the Plane tool.

Kitchen

To start with the fridge what you will want to do is create a box roughly the size of a fridge. You will use the polygon select tool like we did for the couch, and select a thin line in the middle of the box, horizontally and put a negative extrude on it. This will separate the fridge and the freezer. Next, you will use the polygon select to select a thin vertical line on both the fridge and the freezer, and extrude it slightly. These will be the handles for your fridge/freezer combo.

The cabinet will use the same concepts, create a box the size of a cabinet. Use polygon select to select wide areas in each corner of the cabinet, and extrude them in. Then, select four thin lines next to each of the areas you have just extruded in, and extrude them out. These will be the handles for your cabinet. This is how you make a cabinet

To create a stove/oven combo, create a box roughly the size of a stove/oven combo. Use polygon select to select a wide area on the front, and extrude it in slightly. Then, use the polygon select to select a thin line above this, and extrude it out slightly, this will be the handle for your oven. This is how to make a stove/oven combo.

To create countertop, create a box. Use polygon select to extrude a thin line out on the very top, this will be the edge of your counter. This is how to make a countertop.

The island will use the same concepts as the countertop. Create a box, use polygon select to select a thin line at the top of each side of the island, and extrude it out slightly on each side. This is how to make an island.

Dining Room

To create a dining room table, create a box the size of a tabletop. Use polygon select to select the very corners on the bottom of the table, extrude them out to make table legs. This is how to make a table.

To create the chairs, create a box the size of the seat of a chair. Extrude the bottom corners out just like the table. Then, on the edge of the top size, extrude out columns to the height of the back of a chair. Next, bevel the columns in to make the back of the chair look like the back of a chair.

To create plates/bowls, create a sphere. Use vertex select and select the top vertex. Raise the falloff and then lower the vertex you have selected, this will create a bowl/plate depending on how far you go.

To create a fork, create a box the size of a fork. Use polygon select to select endpoints of the fork, and extrude them out. Use the bevel tool to sharpen them. Use mesh smooth to give it a smooth look.

For the knife, make a box the shape of a knife, select the points of the knife with polygon select, and extrude them out. Make them sharp with the bevel tool. Use mesh smooth to give it a smooth look.

Use the plane tool to create a rug.

Bathroom

To create a toilet, start with a very large bowl for the bowl, you learned how to do this on the last step. Next, make a box behind the bowl, and use polygon select to select the edges of it. Use extrude to raise the edges and use mesh smooth for a smooth look.

Don't create a toilet paper holder because this is a bidet.

Create a bowl for the sink, suspend it with a cylinder, put a cylinder above it for the water to come out.

This completes the bathroom.

Bedroom

For the bed, we will start with the frame. Create a box, use polygon select to select the front and back edges, and use extrude to raise it, raise it in columns though, not one big line. Next, use the bevel tool to bring the columns together. This creates a bed frame. Create a box for the mattress, and use mesh smooth to make it smooth. Create a box for the pillow, and use mesh smooth to make it smooth.

For the bedside table, create a box and extrude in the majority of the front of it, then extrude out a small bit for the handle, use mesh smooth to make it smooth. Create a lamp shade with the cone tool, then hold it up with a cylinder.

To create a dresser, start with a box the size of a dresser. Extrude in thin, horizontal lines all the way down to separate the drawers. Use cylinders to make the handles.

Doors

To create a door, put a box in the door frame. Put a cylinder inside the wall on the side you want the hinges to be on. Link the objects together using the link tool. Rotate the cylinder to open the door.
