Honey Soy Pork Marinade
In 1995 I saw a movie called Babe and it was about a cute talking pig. I'm a sucker for talking animals and this little pig just won my heart. I LOVE that pig. He was so kind, tenderhearted and all the other animals just loved him (except for the cat, but she was just bitter because Farmer Hoggett loved pig and not her). I loved that movie so much that I stopped eating pork for 7 years! Seriously, no pork for 7 years and I grew up in Wisconsin, home of the brat!
But that was then and this is now (an excellent young adult novel by S.E. Hinton, by the way) and I am back on the pork train even though I do still love that pig. I will say, it is not my go-to meat, but every now and then I make the other white meat for dinner.
The other day I was making my weekly menu and I had already found a great side dish (Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Honey and Pecans) but needed a main course. Our local grocery store had pork sliders on sale so bingo-bango we had our main course!
For this simply marinade you will need:
- Pork chops (i had 10 pork sliders)
- 3 Tbsp of honey
- 1/3 c of soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp lemon juice
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
Mix It Up, Ya'll!
This is the hard part, so follow closely.
Step 1: Put all the ingredients (but not the pork) into a bowl.
Step 2: Mix. It. Up.
Whoa. Glad we got the hard part over. I was really sweating that part.
Pour Some Sugar, Er Honey on Me!
You can do the marinade a couple different ways. You can put the pork in a ziploc bag and add the marinade OR you can put the pork in a container (I used the good old standby-Tupperware), pour the marinade on the pork and seal that bad boy up!
Refridgerate your marinating meat for at least an hour and up to 24 hours. The longer you marinade the more flavor in the pork.
Fire Up the Weber!
Grill your meat.
Don't grill the Tupperware or ziploc bag.
Hello Deliciousness.
This recipe is absolutely delicious and so easy. Here was the conversation at the dinner table:
Henry, age 6: Mommy, this rocks. Are we eating pig? Did you know that some people keep pigs for pets? I think we should get a pig for a pet.
Mommy: I'm glad you like it and exnay to the pigskay.
Henry: What? What did you say?
Mommy: I said, 'no to the pig' in pig latin.
Pause
Henry: I didn't know they speak latin. I so want a pig now.
