Honey Orange Chicken
Orange Chicken is a dish that originally came from china under the name "old peel Chicken" referring to the old orange peel used in its preparation. But now the old orange peel is more commonly left out entirely and it is considered more a part north american cuisine then Chinese.
This dish to be very similar to the "Honey and Sesame seed chicken" dish, but in my opinion the this honey and orange chicken tastes a lot sweeter.
There is very little in the way of preparation for this dish; the vast majority of the time it takes to create is the cooking/ reduction time of the marinade, the rest is just combining ingredients and stirring.
Because of the simplicity of this dish I would recommend it as an easy starting point for beginners.who want to try takeaway style food.

2 large eggs beaten
1 cup of vegetable oil
1/2 tablespoon sesame seed oil

1 cup of honey
1/3 cups of distilled vinegar
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 garlic minced
1 table spoon orange zest (optional)
1/4 tablespoon of chopped ginger
white pepper to season
Sauté the Spring Onion Ginger and Garlic
Picture 1. add the finely chopped ginger, spring onions and the garlic in to a large frying pan or wok and saute in sesame seed oil until it becomes transparent.
Picture 2. - 3. saute for a few minutes then take off the heat.
Batter the Chicken
Picture 1. arrange the chopped chicken, corn flour and salt/pepper and the beaten eggs in a line
Picture 2. dip the chicken bits first in the corn flour then next in the eggs(the cornflour helps the eggs to stick to the chicken) then back in to the corn flour
Picture 3. place all the chicken on a plate ready to be fried
Cook the Chicken
Picture 1. Add more ground nut oil to the spring onions, garlic and ginger (Ground nut oil wont effect the taste, sesame seed oil will also work)
Picture 2. Add the chicken one piece at a time so that they don't all stick together
Picture 3. wait for the batter on the outside to start to brown picture 3 shows the idea level, remember the chicken shouldn't really be properly cooked at this stage as its going to go in the oven for a long while afterwards
Mix the Marinade
Picture 1. start with a large clean bowl
Picture 2. Add orange juice
Picture 3. Add honey
Picture 4. Add sesame seed oil and soy sauce
Picture 5. Add sesame seeds
Alternatively you could choice not to saute the onions garlic and ginger, in-which case you would add them in at this point.
Bake and Reduce
Picture 1. pour the chicken in to a deep container and pour the marinade over the top
Picture 2-4 place dish in the oven at gas mark 3 taking out every 15 minutes and siring so that the top doesn't burn your dish is finished once you have reduced the marinade in to a thick syrup.
