Homemade Water Filter!!!

Materials:
- Fine sand
- Gross sand
- Fine gravel
- Gross gravel
- Stones
- Cotton
- Gauzes
- 6 Bottles
- Scissors
- 3 wooden boards of the same size
- 12 large woods
- Big screws
- Hose
- Silicone
- Purple cabbage
- Water
- Glass or metal vessel
- Drill
- Aluminum Sulfate [Al2 (SO4)3]
- Calcium hypochlorite [CaClO2]
For the Filters

Each bottle must have multiple layers to filtrate the water

Cut the upper part of your 6 bottles, save that parts for later

Take some cotton and push it into the bottleneck, do the same for the 6 bottles

Place a thin gauze layer above the cotton (also for the six bottles)

Take some fine sand and put it above the gauze
Place another gauze layer above the sand

Repeat the same procedure with the gross sand, fine gravel, gross gravel, stones and coal, don’t forget to put a layer of gauze between them
For the Structure

We’ll make a table-like structure to hold the filters

Take the 3 wooden boards of the same size, and draw some circles, tree on the first table, two on the second and one on the third one. The circles must be a little bit bigger than the bottleneck.

With a drill start making the holes on the wooden boards. BE CAREFUL, use glasses and gloves

On the corner of each board do one small hole with the drill, they will help to place the screws.
Take the 12 large woods (they will be used for the table legs) and do small holes on top of each one with the drill (the same holes that we did before)

With the drill and screws we’ll join the wooden boards with the large woods to do the tables. At the end we’ll have 3 “tables” that will be placed one above the other

Take each bottle cap and do a hole as big as the hose diameter

Pass the hose through the hole and stick it with silicone, do the same with each bottle cap

Put each bottle cap on the bottles again and place the bottles in the structure

Cut the hose according to the distance between the filters

Put a glass or metal vessel behind the last filter

The usage of chemicals to purify water

Measure the amount of aluminum sulfate and calcium hypochlorite, 1 teaspoonful of calcium hypochlorite and ¼ tablespoon of aluminum sulfate

Put each one above a piece of gauze and tie it up to do some small “bags” (similar to tea bags)

Then put the aluminum sulfate bag on the last bottle and the calcium hypochlorite bag on the glass or metal vessel
Remember we must change this bags every day
To Measure Ph

We used a natural ph measurer to register our results

Cut the purple cabbage on small pieces

Boil the cabbage with water for 5 minutes until some parts of it turn green

Wait for the water to cool and put only the purple liquid in a bottle

Prove it with coca cola (for example), put some cabbage water on a glass and add the same amount of coca cola, if it turns to a red-like color it’s working

You can also prove it with the two chemicals we used before, it will turn greenish for the calcium hypochlorite and purple for the aluminum sulfate.

Now we’ve finished we just need to prove it, remember after our water is already filtrated we must boil it
