Homemade Microwave Popcorn
I love popcorn, it is my favorite movie snack and TV watching snack. There are many ways to make popcorn at home, one of my favorite ways is to make popcorn in the microwave. No need to buy the microwave popcorn packets at the store, no need to worry about the chemicals, and other little hidden things that are in store bought microwave popcorn. In this instructable I will show you how to make your very own homemade microwave popcorn. It is incredibly easy to do, super duper cheap, and would be a fun thing to do with the kids. Let's get snacking!
If you have any questions or comments put them down below and I will make sure to get back to you as soon as I can. Follow the easy steps below or watch the very short video tutorial, or do both!
Ingredients
Print the recipe here if you like.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels (Pop Secret Jumbo are my favorite Kernels, but any will work)
- 1 tsp of olive oil (or any oil) - optional
- Salt to taste
- 1 brown paper sack (lunch bag)
- Fork
- Small bowl
Toppings:
Flavor with your favorite popcorn toppings!! Some of my favorite toppings are of course salt, garlic powder, parmesan cheese, butter, ranch powder, etc.
Mix Kernels
First lets put our kernels in a bowl and add our olive oil and a few shakes of salt, then stir with a fork or spoon. Now, oil is not necessary, the kernels will pop without it, but I like to add it to add a hint of flavor.
Add Kernels to Bag and Fold
Now we just add our kernels to a brown paper bag (common lunch bag here in the United States). Then fold over the top 3 or 4 times. Keep it upright.
Microwave!
Now place the bag upright in the microwave and cook on high for 1 min 20 to 1 min 45 seconds. It depends on your microwave. My microwave is a 1200 watt microwave, and it takes only 1 min 20 to complete. You want to let it pop until you hear about 1 second pass before another kernel pops. Don't let it go too long, it will burn. It is much better to leave some un-popped kernels, then to burn it.
Open It Up!
Once done, take out that bag of goodness and open it up, be careful steam will escape. Then check out your results...mmm yummy!! Now flavor the popcorn however you like. You can put all your flavors right in that bag, and give it a good shake, then eat it out of the bag, or pour it in a bowl!
Happy Snacking!
