Homemade Magnets

Making homemade magnets either for decoration, to stick something on your fridge, or both is super easy so let's get started!

Supplies

  • Coloring utensils
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Cardboard or any other similar material
  • Magnets (The stronger the magnets are the better so it can support itself and whatever you want to stick to the refrigerator if you want)
  • Glue (Try to get glue that is strong enough to bind the magnets and cardboard together without the risk of it falling apart)

Making the Design

To make the design, we will first take a piece of paper and draw / color/ paint / etc. whatever we want and cut it out. Then we will take the piece of paper and trace it on cardboard on a similar material so the magnets can stay sturdy but try not to have a material that is too heavy unless you have strong magnets. Cut out the cardboard and glue it to the paper. You are already halfway done!

Adding the Magnets

All we have left to do now is to add the magnets. You can buy magnets from a local hardware store or online. You might even be able to find some in a shower curtain which is where I got mine. Take the magnets and glue them to the design you made. I used Gorilla Glue because it is strong. Add as many as you think you need to support the weight of the design and whatever you might hand from it. Neodymium magnets are the strongest type of magnets and are relatively cheap. You can use just one that is 1 millimeter big and it should be enough! Make as many as you like and share your creations. Thank you so much!
