Don't forget to follow me and check out my other Instructables. :)
Follow the easy steps below to watch the short video tutorial or do both.
Supplies
Ingredients:
- 12 oz of tomato paste (340g)
- 1/2 tsp of onion powder (3g)
- 1/2 tsp of garlic powder (3g)
- 1 1/2 tsp of salt (8g)
- 1/2 cup of water (120g)
- 1 cup of white distilled vinegar (240g)
- 1/2 cup of corn syrup (165g)
- 1 to 2 Tbsp of white sugar (15 to 30g) optional
Equipment:
- Medium sauce pot
- Spatula or spoon
- Mason jar with lid or other container
- Empty ketchup bottle - optional
Combine All the Ingredients
Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepot and stir it.
Heat and Taste
Set the burner to medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, make sure to stir frequently. Give it a taste with a spoon (make sure to blow on it, beforehand) then add additional sugar and any other spices as desired. You could also add more corn syrup.
Once the ketchup comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and then let it simmer for 20 to 25 minutes until it thickens. Stir it occasionally.
After simmering, remove it from the heat, cover it with a lid, and allow it to cool to room temperature. This will take 45 minutes to an hour or so.
Chill and Storage
Pour the ketchup into a mason jar or you can use an empty ketchup bottle. Then place in the fridge to chill. It will thicken even more as it cools. Now it is ready to use!
Eat It!
Now use the ketchup for whatever you need it for. :) Enjoy!
