Homemade Generator
Today we will make a generator which will power a led.
Required Things
- A few old CDs
- A marker and sketch pen
- Rubberbands
- Rello tape ring
- A metalwire
- LED Light
- Clay
- Sunboard/some piece of wood
- DC Motor
- Glue gun
- Saw
- Metal saw
- soldering iron
- heather
The CDs
For the first step you will need:
- CDs
- Cello tape ring
- Marker
- Clay
- Glue gun
- Metal Saw
- Remove the innerpart of the marker
- Put the marker through the "eye" of the CD
- Put the cello tape ring on the same CD and put the other CD on top of it.
- Saw with the metal saw the marker so it fits perfectly.
- Now take on CD of and glue the cello tape ring and the marker on the CD.
- When its dried you can full the ring with the clay.
- When that's done, you can put the other CD on top of the rest and glue that too.
The Wood
For this step you need:
- glue gun
- saw
- sunboard/piece of wood
- rest of the marker
- Saw out of the sunboard a nice square. around 35 cm ×35 cm.
- saw out of the rest 2 little pillars, around 8 cm×4 cm.
- Glue the pillars to the square. The CD has to fit perfectly between the pillars (see photo).
- Now saw two supporting pillars. try to saw around an angle of 45 degrees and glue them to the pillars and the square (like photo).
- Saw 2 tiny circles out of what is left of the marker, around 1 cm thick. Glue them to the top of the pillars
Halter
For this step you need:
- metal wire
- sketch pen
- lighter
- tape
- heat with your lighter the metal wire.
- Mark on your sketch pen where it has to be. On one of the sides.
- When the metal wire is getting really hot, stop heating it and try to burn it in the sketch pen.
- Now you can bend the metal wire to a 90 degrees angel.
- Tape the middle of the pen so it fits perfectly in your CDs
Putting It Together
Now after you followed all of the steps you can put them together. Pull the sketchpen through the first ring, then the CDs, then put a rubberband on the CD and then you can put the pen through other ring. Now you can glue the sketch pen to the CD's so it sticks together, and moves as on part.
The Electronics
Thing you need at this step:
- LED Light
- DC Motor
- Soldering iron
- little bit of glue
- If you have to, solder 2 wires to the DC Motor.
- Solder the wires to the LED. Make sure they are connected correctly. So anode to anode and kathode to kathode.
- Now put a little bit of glue on the end of the DC Motor. this will provide the rubber band to slip of.
Cover of the LED
thing required for this step:
- glue gun
- 1 CD
- scissors
- cardboard
- cut out of the cardboard a square of 3 cm ×3 cm and make at the bottom a tiny hole for the LED
- cut 3 pieces out of the CD and glue them to the square.(see photo)
Last Step
Now all you have to do is:
glue the DC Motor and the LED with is cover on the board(square).
Now when you get the rubber band on the DC Motor is will power the LED when you rotate the CDs.
