Homemade Game

Done.jpg

So one day you're sitting home on a hot summer day and you have nothing to do. You try to get on your computer and try to play a game with the boys, but the game has drained you out. You don't want to play that game anymore because you lose too much and you waste time and money on it. So you get off your computer and you get on your phone and get on Tik Tok. But on Tik Tok you see too much weird posts and just get off your phone. So now you're just sitting there wondering: "What am I gonna do now?". Well what you're going to do now is make a game! Because when making a game, you have something to do and something to do afterwards. Its a perfect waste of time!

One of the main culprits to boredom is that you have nothing to do (AKA you're bored). Other things that cause boredom is just a lack in interest from tasks as seen from the top where you got bored with your game on the computer. So basically the way to solve this Boredom is by creating something that will be fun to do and will make you have fun for awhile. Once you achieve your goal and do something fun, it will instantly remove all boredom. This is why we should build a game at home, it will take us a awhile to make it and we will be able to play it.

Before we go think of ideas to solve our boredom we must first think of the constraints. Constraints are things that we basically can't do or are limited in like materials. Our Constraints are basically that we have to use simple building materials, not use too much money, and also make it simply to build. Those are really all of our constraints. So now that we know our Constraints lets think of what we can build.

We can try to build something like a Catapult game at home. If you think about it, its quite simple to build a Catapult game because we don't really need any complex materials to build anything. Really all you need are pencils or popsicle sticks for the base, and rubber bands or tape to hold it all together. A Catapult game wouldn't be a bad idea. Basically the Catapult game will involve us using a catapult and knocking something down with it. This could be like pill containers stacked on to each other or anything stacked on each other.

Another idea we can do is a homemade ping pong game where it involves the dinner table and a home made net, ping pong, and paddle. This will be kind of simple as we can easily build a net out of paper and popsicle sticks and we can build a paddle with pencils, paper, cardboard, and tape. We can also make the ping pong ball out of paper and tape, any tape works.

Another idea we can do is to build a tic tac toe game where we use pencils to make it. To make X's and O's we can use rocks and tooth picks and to build the whole tic tac toe game we just connect pencils together. That is quite simple but will probably get very boring.

Last idea is that we make our own game. This consists of homemade paddles and a cup. Lets say the objective of the game is to hit the ball into the cup. The further away the cup the harder it is to hit. If you don't have a cup we can easily make one and like the ping pong game we can easy make a paddle out of popsicle sticks, paper, cardboard, and tape. We can also make the ball out of paper and tape. We can build our cup with paper, cardboard, and tape. We can also make our own rules. Which is cool.

Out of all of these ideas I think that building our own little "Nail it in the cup" game will the most fun because we can build it ourselves and also play it by ourselves.

Using Onshape I have made a general idea of how our parts should look.

Supplies

- A roll of tape any kind works.

- 10 pieces of paper.

- A big card board box

- 12 Jumbo Craft sticks.
- Ruler

- Pencil

- Knife

Make the Design Using Onshape.

We used onshape to design our game so here is what it looks like.

Onshape is a program that is used for designing things that will be used in the engineering world. Onshape is the only program that combines 3D CAD, PDM, collaboration, and analytics tools in the cloud. Onshape is also very simple to use as I was able to learn how to use Onshape in a day. You can see more about Onshape on the link posted below.

Building the Box.

Step 1: Cut a 5 4x4 inch square out of our cardboard. The reason we cut out 5 pieces is that we will have 1 base and 4 sides.
Step 2: Lay all the pieces on the ground. Put the base down in the middle and put the 4 side pieces on the top, sides (left and right), and bottom.

Step 3: Once we placed the squares where we wanted we will tape the sides to the base. So since its laying on the ground we tape the side to the base so its quite simple.

Step 4: Then we raise the walls and hold them together.

Step 5: Tape the side walls together so they can stand up by themselves and be the cup.

Step 6: Cut out 2 strips of 4.5 inch high paper. Cut it hotdog way so turn the paper to the hotdog side and then measure 4.5 inches in height out of that and cut the paper out.

Step 7: Wrap the paper along the outside of the walls so it looks better. Use tape to attach the paper to the walls.

We are now done with the box.

Building the Ball

Step 1: Get 2 sheets of copy paper and just bundle it up with your hands into a ball

Step 2: tape all over the bundle of paper and then use your hands to form it into a ball.

Now we're done with the ball.

Building the Paddle

Step 1: Get 2 popsicle sticks and stack them on each other and tape them together (Make sure you tape the top and the bottom together) Do this 2 times.

Step 2: Place our 2 stacked popsicle sticks next to eachother on the floor or flat surface and apply tape to put them together. We will call this the handle.

Step 3: Get 2 popsicle sticks and mark a line where its 4 and a half inches high. Then place the popsicle sticks beneath the handle. Vertically. Make sure you use the 4.5 inch high line to measure where to put it. Once finished attach the handle with the 2 popsicle sticks.

Step 4: Get 6 popsicle sticks and line them side to side. Make sure their straight. Tape them all together.

Step 5: There should be a part sticking out from our handle part and you will have to attach the 6 attached sticks to it.

Step 6: Cut out a 6 inch x4.5 inch cardboard piece.

Step 7: attach the cardboard piece to the 6 popsicle sticks.

Step 8: get a whole piece of paper, measure 4.5 inches from the height hot dog style. Draw a line through the entire paper at where you measured 4.5 inches.

Step 9: Cut out the paper.

Step 10: Wrap the paper around the paddle. Make sure the side that doesn't have enough paper is on the back side of the paddle.

Step 11: Tape the paper to the paddle on the back.

We're now done with the paddle. You can view the pictures I posted in order to help you with building the paddle.

Making the Rules and How to Play.

This game is meant to be laid back and also allow the player to do whatever he wants. But there must be a set of rules to follow.

1. Do not place the bucket anywhere less than 5 feet from the person playing. It must be 5 feet or further away so you actually have to try.

2. Never keep the cup in the same place, make sure the cup changes places every 1 round.

That's basically the rules.

Now when playing the game we make it simple. Each ball is worth a point and every time you get it in you get a point. Lets say you get 3 try's as we have 3 balls. If you hit one ball into the cup you get 1 point. This game will have 10 rounds. This means that you will get to score 30 times. Each round will be different as each round you will have to place the cup somewhere else. You can play this game by yourself but it will also be fun with a friend. You can compete with yourself and try to get better points every time. The max points one can get is 30.

Now that we've finished everything, go have fun! Hopefully you don't get bored in the first hour!
