Homemade Doughnuts
Every now and again, I enjoy making homemade doughnuts. It was a breakfast treat that I learned to make years ago when I was in Boy Scouts. This is a quick and easy meal to make and is sure to be tasty. So if you would like to learn to make them, please continue reading.
Ingredinents
To make these doughnuts you will need...
- A tube of biscuits
- Vegetable oil
- Powdered sugar/ cinnamon sugar, other topping (optional)
- Small pot
- Slotted spoon
- Paper towels
Heat the Oil
The first step to cook the doughnuts is to get your oil heated to frying temperature. Fill the pot with vegetable oil until there is about 1-2 inches covering the bottom of the pot. Set the flame to low-med to help prevent the doughnuts from burning.
Cook the Doughnuts
To make the doughnuts, take the biscuits and poke a hole in the center. Gently stretch out the dough to spread the dough out a little and to make the center hole more defined. If you accidentally tear the biscuit apart, you can roll the dough into balls an make doughnut holes the same way you would the regular doughnuts. Whichever you are making, gently drop the dough into the oil as to prevent splashing. Leave it in the oil until it is a golden brown then flip. Cook the second side just as the first, removing it once it is crispy. Be careful once the oil is hot as the doughnuts can get burned very quickly. Put the cooked doughnuts on a paper towel to allow the excess oil to drip off.
Add the Toppings (Optional)
If you like powdered or cinnamon sugar doughnuts, you can add that after you remove them from the pot. Simply fill up a bowl with your desired topping and dip the hot doughnut until it is covered. Flip and cover the other side.
Enjoy!
