Shake Your Own Butter at Home.
This Instructable is dedicated to the process of creating butter and buttermilk by hand. There is no need for any electrical equipment, just dedication, cream and a bottle. This home-made butter is much healthier than store-bought butter because you know what goes into it. Enough talk, lets get started!
Apologies for bad quality pictures, I am using a camera phone at the moment.
What You'll Need
To shake your own butter your will need:
- A water bottle or container, your container needs to have a screw on lid and if possible should have ridges in it
- Cream, I'm using Pams cream, but you can use any kind of heavy whipping cream
- Quite a bit of time
Step 1
First fill your container up. About half way for a small container.
Step 2
Now you'll want to start shaking your cream. The faster you shake the faster your cream will become whipped cream.
Step 3
When the sloshing stops take a peek inside your jar. Now you have whipped your cream, take a quick break. This might sound counter productive but it actually helps turn your whipped cream into butter.
Step 4
You've turned your cream into whipped cream and you've had a quick break. Great! You're ready to start the next step! Begin shaking your whipped cream vigorously. The harder and faster you shake the quicker the cream will break.
Step 5
When your cream gets to look like the photo in the step previous your are on the home straight to creating butter! Keep shaking hard and fast until you start to hear sloshing but don't stop, keep going for 30 more seconds. Take a look, if you have 2 substances, 1 white and liquid and 1 soft and yellow Congratulations!! You have made butter with only cream and a jar!
The 2 substances you have are butter and traditional buttermilk.
