Home Security System With Raspberry Pi

Building a home security camera on your own? Isn't it crazy? You can actually do so with a Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi Camera! This interesting project will tell you what you’ll need and how you can build your own security camera. So let's get started with this amazing project!

Now let’s look at what you’ll need before starting this project:

Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB (you can use any other RPI)

Raspberry Pi Camera Module v2 (Any Pi Camera will)

Power SupplyMicro SD Card (8GB + Recommended)

Ethernet Cord (Recommended) or WiFi DongleRaspberry Pi Case (Optional, but we offer a variety of cases if you’re interested)

You’ll need a Raspberry Pi Camera and A regular IR camera. Once you got your camera, we will need to install the camera and to do this go to the ribbon slot which is directly behind the Ethernet port. using two fingers gently then pull up on both sides of the connector using two fingers. you can take help from the picture here. Once the connector is opened, you have to insert the ribbon cable with the metal leads facing away from the Ethernet port. keep it in line and gently press back down on the connector. The cable is now locked in place.

Installing Software: now we have to install the software. you can choose any software but MotionEye OS is easy to set up for this project. The instruction to setup is as follows:

Step 1: First you have to Download the MotionEye OS SD Card Image from the MotionEye OS GitHub repository.

Step 2: Visit the SD Association’s website and download SD Formatter. this step includes formating your software, then proceed.

Step 3: Insert your SD card into the computer or laptop’s SD card reader and check the drive letter allocated to it.

Step 4: In SD Formatter, select the drive letter for your SD card and format.

Install MotionEye OS Image into SD Card

Step 1: Download Win32DiskImager.

Step 2: install the MotionEye OS image file onto the Pi.

Step 3: Select the MotionEye OS image file and the drive letter your SD card is assigned.

Step 4: Check if you have the correct details and click on Write.

Step 5: After completing all the steps you can safely remove your SD card from the computer.

Setting up MotionEye OS

Now, insert your SD Card, Ethernet cord, and power cord. Setting up your Raspberry Pi Security Camera as following:

Step 1: You’ll need to know your IP or hostname. If you’re using Windows, simply go to network on the right-hand side in the File Explorer. You should see a computer names something like MP-E28D9CE5Go to your browser and add this to your browser bar and now you have the MotionEye OS interface up. You can also find out the IP of the Pi by going to your router.

Step 2: then you have to go to the key symbol in the upper-left corner, it will log you in as the admin. The username is admin and the password is blank. You don’t have to enter any password, this can be changed later. now you are all good to go!
