Frank Ippolito, once made a very eccentric but very rare and unique humanoid type lego character "what if a Lego person looked like in real life " cosplay ... but now you guys can make you very own LEGO action figure...it wont connect to your actual lego pieces, but you can say you've made your very own LEGO toy.

  • SHARPIE MARKER (Posca Marker whichever suits you)
  • milliput (yellow)
  • rubber disposable gloves
  • crafting tools
  • acrylic paint (for extra glare Metallic paint can be used)
  • spray can varnish ( any varnishing product can be useful spray or paint... but as long it doesn't make the work permanently wet or sticky , I use good quality stuff not the cheap ones)
  • A picture reference of the humanoid or typical Lego figure too.

  1. Start off by choosing a 3 inch action figure ...whether it's bootleg nor non officiated, you can find in your local pound or dollar store ... it can be made in different sizes from 3 inches to 5 inches, I've decided to start mine in 3 inch, as it's small and portable and has less details like a six pack or muscle features.
  2. I get my Milliput clay ... mix two components into a ball, so the clay becomes colourless, (make sure they are at the right amount or else they wont become hard enough, once it's dried) then of course apply the clay to your chosen figure.
  3. Go to your reference picture of the particular lego figure you want to create,I went with the typical yellow face, red shirt and blue trouser figure (use the search engine like Google,Bing and etc to find an appropriate picture, even to find the humanized version too CAUTION it looks spooky but cool)
  4. When adding the finer details on your figure, such as the LEGO connect details on the head above and the lego type hands, use a paint brush or a circular pen to give it that bend on the hand and use the end of the pen, to give the head a signature head paint or use your crafting tool of choice and open mouth part with little eye piece made from Milliput and the stomach area (as for the shoes,be sure to make them good enough for the figure to stand on its own, so I suggest after applying Milliput for the shoes on to your figure...place them on a flat surface area to see if it can stand and leave it overnight).

  1. After the figure is rock hard for applying details with the Milliput, it is time for a paint job (as you can see,the photos may have been seen differently, but it's just a prime example of what you'll need to do).
  2. I start off, by painting a base coat of grey acrylic paint to the figure, more then one coat is necessary but be cautious due to the paint getting into the joints.
  3. Then add the fully coloured paint details, like the figure yellow skin, then the red for the shirt and blue for trousers ( I'D USED METALLIC BLUE ON MY ONE ) and black for the shoes.
  4. Afterwards, use sharpie(or posca) for the eyes and mouth or add a tiny white posca marker to give it a little eye shine on the figures eyes.

Once all that painting and detailing is done, it's time to VARNISH it, I use aerosol version on my figure but a paint for plastic varnish can be useful for indoors ( no fumes included), but the Aerosol ones can come in many textures like gloss or matt, so I used a matt varnish version, spray the figure outside, in a good clear ventilated area no harm done, wait for it to dry in a few half hours, if I don't like what I see, or maybe not enough amount of varnish on the lego figure, I give it another coat and wait for it to dry and you my friend, have finished your own made lego figure.

Enjoy and I hope this can give you some good help in making it... have fun :D
