Home Made Apple Sauce

photo 2.JPG

This is a pretty simple recipe, but it always reminds me of fall. Enjoy.

Ingredients

For apple sauce I gathered

4 honey crisp apples (for sweeter apples like these, I would recommend using less sugar),

3/4 cup of water (you may need to add more if you cook it down longer),

1/5 cup of white sugar,

1 tablespoon of brown sugar,

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon,

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg.

Chopping the Apples

Core, skin, and chop the apples.

Combine All Ingredients

Combine all of the ingredients into a sauce pan and heat over medium heat until the apples become soft.

Mash and Cook Down

I used a potato masher to mash the apples into a sauce. If you do this at about 20 minutes and stop cooking the apples down, you will have chunks of apples throughout your sauce. I continued to cook down my sauce after mashing so that the apple chunks melted away.

Eat, Jar, Enjoy

After letting it cool for a little while, I put it into a mason jar for storage. Hope you enjoy.

If you like it, i have entered this and my "apple snack sandwich" in the apple chef contest.
