As a kid I loved making treasure maps & scavenger hunts. When my daughter was old enough, we continued this activity together. The last couple of years has encouraged us to take this hobby to a whole new level because we were looking for fun activities that we could do around the house. Now you are seeing the results of what we created.

Basic Game:

In this lesson you will learn how to setup a Holiday Scavenger Hunt! If you would like a simple project you could just print the clues, follow the instructions (Step 4) on how to hide them and have your player run through the house solving this puzzle!

Advanced:

If you are looking for a bit more of an adventure by adding some of your own personal touches to this puzzle (Step 6) this lesson will also go over how to make your own clues and illustrations. This will be a great project for someone that is interested in puzzle making & a very basic introduction into Artificial Intelligence (Robot 🤖) Created Art.

I hope you enjoy & happy holidays.

Note: Just off the print area in the Google Slides file you will see were the clue is directing the player

▸ Suggestions:

  • It is helpful to stack up the clues in the order that you want to send the player around the house
  • Take your stack of clues
  • If clue #1 is directing the player to their towel, mark lightly on the back of clue #2 "towel"
  • This is not info for the player, but will help you remember were to hide the clue
  • Repeat this process with the whole stack of clues
  • Now it is time to hide the clues
  • It is fun to hide small gifts with the clues

Let the Games Begin!

▸ Now it is time to give the first clue to the player.

▸ Suggestion: It might be fun to hide the first clue in a present wrapped up under the tree!

Make Your Own Clues (Advanced)

▸ Copy: Holiday Scavenger Hunt Make Your Own Clues

▸ Suggestions: Ideas on how to make your own clues:

  • Go to pinterest.com
  • Search for “Christmas song lyrics”
  • Pick a song that you like
  • Take a rhyming word from a couplet
  • Plug it into rhymezone.com
  • See if a rhyming word can help build a clue
