Holiday Garland Made With Milk Lids

This is a great holiday craft to make with kids. It works well for many ages. Young kids can decorate pre-strung garland with stickers. Older kids can use letter stickers to spell out phrases. As skills increase, kids can sew together pre-punched garland, punch holes, and cut letters and shapes to decorate the garlands.

Milk jug lids
Friendship bracelet cord/cotton thread
Decorative paper and/or holiday stickers

I used flat pop off/push on milk lids, but the screw type should work also.

Push pin
Small nail
Sharpie marker
Needle
Glue stick

Using a Sharpie marker, mark two dots on the edge of each lid for the holes that the thread will pass through. I spaced mine 1 1/2 inches apart.

Using a push pin and then a small nail, make two holes in each lid on the marked spots. Make sure that the hole is on edge near the flat lid top.

Using a needle and cotton thread, thread the lids together. Go completely though one hole and then the other. Move the lids along the string to adjust spacing. Leave about 15 inches on each end for hanging.

Using letters cut from decorative paper, glue a letter on each lid to spell out your holiday message. Alternatively, decorate with stickers.
