Holder for Flyers

A friend of mine has a B&B and asked me if I could make him a little newspaper and flyer holder, which he can just leave at the front entrance and his guest can see what is it to visit nearby. I was happy to offer him my help as I was just buying a secondhand router table and I was eager to try it out. The next day I went to my local lambert store and bought some 9"*1" pine board.

I got some sort of idea of how tall it's going to be or need to be so start measuring up and cutting on my table saw. Made a few passes on my router table to round some of the edges, also I was happy didn't cut my fingers off. For the finished look, he asked me if I could give a burned effect.

This was exciting, the whole idea is to bun the wood with a blow torch so the grains are more visible. I didn't want to give a black color more like a brown, so all I had to do is one quick pass and I was kind of ready for sanding down, first I was using an 80 grid then a 120 grid, and finished it with a 240 grid.

To put it together I used a compressor and a staple/nail gun. I have to say it is one of my favorite tools. After I have it stapled together I give a teak oil rub to protect the timber. It is not much but I was happy that I could help out a friend and that he actually likes it.
