High Visibility Targets

As I explained in a previous instructable (Indoor Target Stop Steel Bb Gun), I have a friend that wanted to improve his handgun skills. I had used a bb gun in the past with good success. A high visibility target was needed to speed training. I found several method to make homemade high visibility targets and I found this method to be the easiest for me. I use bright colored paper and bright colored 3x5 cards. I have found that white paper works well with black paint. I start with the 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, after that becomes too easy I go to the 3x5 cards. The final target is 1/2 of a 3x5 card (a 2 1/2x 3) target. If there is difficulty encounter I tape the smaller target to a larger target so the problem can be identified.

I lay the paper and cards on my workbench and then apply clear packing tape to the top. I tape the paper to my bench and do as many sheets at once as I have room. After applying tape to the total surface of the paper. The the taped pieces are cut apart any excess tape is fold over and stuck to the back.

Then the taped paper is painted, use a contrasting color, if you are purchasing paint for this project flat black is probably the best choice. I found white or silver works well on the smaller target against the larger background target. Let the paint dry at least 24 hours, you want the paint as brittle as possible.

Tape to the target stop and have fun. I did try to use masking tape instead of the clear packing tape, but it did not work as well as the packing tape.
