Helping Hand for Soldering

Hello this is my first instructable and I will show you how to make an cheap helping hand for soldering. It has four crocodiles clips and a fan to evacuate toxic smoke.

For this helping hand you will need:
-dumbbell or any steel weight of 0.5-1kg
-4 crocodiles clips
-monofilament copper wire of 1,5 mm2
-12v fan (you can find on in an old pc)
-a switch to control the fan
-a 9v batterie with a connector

For the tools you need a solder iron and all the stuff for soldering, double face scotch, drill with a 3mn bit, a lighter and glue.

Start by drilling 5 holes in the dumbbell. Then strip 1 meter of the copper wire. Pass the wire through the holes to make 4 loops for the crocodiles clips and a longer one for the fan. Twist the wires to make them stronger. Solder the four crocodiles clips at the end of each twisted wire. Use a lighter to solder faster.

Attach the fan at the end of the longest twisted wire. Then fix the battery with the double face scotch and glue the switch on the top of the fan.

The last thing to do is to solder the fan, the battery connector and the switch. Connect the switch between the fan and the battery to control it. Be careful of the direction of the air flow, it must blows sucks air when turn on.
And that's it you now have a cheap helping hand!
