Whaaaaaattt? A HEALTHY chocolate smoothie? How do chocolate and healthy work in the same sentence? Well, this smoothie is indeed healthy, and it has chocolate in it. The secret is to add naturally sweet fruits like mango and pineapple, then add unsweetened cocoa powder. In reality, you aren’t actually adding extra sugar to the smoothie, only unsweetened cocoa powder. Adding unsweetened cocoa powder to already sweet fruit makes for a delicious smoothie! It tastes like you are drinking actual chocolate, but without the unhealthy added sugar. This smoothie is deliciously thick—so thick in fact that you will need a spoon to get it out of the blender!

You will need:

-A blender

-A long, blunt edge knife in case you need to un-clog your blender

-1 cup milk of any kind

-1 cup apple cider (I used orange juice since I didn’t have apple cider, but it is better to use apple cider)

-Frozen mango cubes

-Frozen pineapple cubes

-Frozen peach slices (optional)

-1/2 frozen banana

-Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder

-1/4 cup protein powder (optional)

First of all, pour 1 cup of milk and 1 cup apple cider into the blender. Pour in enough frozen mango cubes to barely cover the liquids. I can tell when I’m done pouring in mangoes when they stop floating in the liquid, which tells me that the mangoes have reached the bottom. Next, pour in about 1/4 cup pineapple and add a few frozen peach slices if you so desire. Next, place 1/2 frozen banana on top of the fruits, then put in a heaping spoonful of unsweetened cocoa powder. Finally, add 1/4 cup protein powder if you want to make it even healthier.

Blend It!

Next, turn on the blender and start blending your smoothie. If your blender is not very powerful like mine, use the blunt edged knife to stir up your smoothie and allow it to fully blend. If you need to add a little more liquid to assist the blending, go ahead. Don’t add too much at one time, because while you can always put more liquid in, you can’t take it out. Now you have a delicious, healthy chocolate smoothie! There will be enough to fill two large cups, or an extra large and a small cup. You can share some of this amazing smoothie with a friend!
