In this lesson you will create an easy 3D printable boat. The boat is quite large so you may want to scale it down before you print it.

Instructions

We will start by making the largest part of the boat which is the body or known as the hull.

Instructions

  1. Start by dragging a box on the workplane.
  2. Scale the height of the box to 25mm.
  3. Scale the footprint of the box to 70mm by 85mm. This shape will be the hull of our boat.
  4. Copy and paste the box on the workplane.
  5. Raise the newly created box to a height of 5mm.
  6. Scale the newly created box to a footprint of 60mm by 75mm.
  7. While having the newly created box selected press the 'hole' option in the top right hand corner.
  8. Drag the hole box into the center of the other box. If you are having trouble getting it to align, you can use the align tool in the top right hand corner.
  9. While having both shapes selected, press the 'group' button in the top right hand corner.
  10. Continue to the next step.

In this step we will create the front part of the boat, also known as the bow. We will need a roof piece to do this.

Instructions

  1. Stick a roof piece on the workplane.
  2. Rotate the roof piece 90 degrees as shown.
  3. Rotate the roof piece 90 degrees as shown.
  4. Raise the roof to a height of 5mm.
  5. Scale the height of the roof piece to 25mm. You'll want to grab it from the bottom when re-sizing.
  6. Adjust the footprint of the roof piece to 25mm by 70mm.
  7. Align the roof piece with the short side of the boat. Once this is completed, your creation should look like a boat.
  8. Select all of the shapes on the workplane and press the 'group' button.
  9. Continue to the next lesson.
