This is my useless hat chopstick switch that turns on two LED's when you connect the ends of the chopstick to each end of the circuit. Can be turned on and off by simply moving the chopstick.

Supplies

You're going to need:

  • Copper tape
  • A hat with a bill
  • 2 3V batteries
  • A chopstick (we'll be cutting this depending on the length of the circuit)
  • Scissors or knife
  • 2 small LED's
  • Some patience

Place Your Hat on the Table and Place a Small Strip of Copper Tape Across the Middle of the Bill

This will be the junction between your two LED's

Add an LED on Each Side of the Tape

IMG_5461.jpg

Your left hand LED should have its negative prong on the left and the positive on the tape we just put down. Tape that positive prong to that original tape and place another strip of tape under the negative bit so it extends closer to the end of the your hat

Your right hand LED should have its negative prong on the original strip of tape. Tape that prong to that piece of tape. Leave the other prong free so you can do the same thing we just did with the other LED and then tape it down.

Measure Your Chopstick and Cut Accordingly

That bit of tape that we added to the left and right side of the hat on either end of the LED's is where your chopstick is going to go so make sure its not too long when extending across that gap. Cut your chopstick if needed.

Wrap Both End of Your Chopstick in Copper Tape and Connect the Two Wrapped Ends

Take some copper tape and wrap each end of the chopstick with it and then take a long strip and connect both wrapped ends

Tape One End of That Chopstick to the Right Side of the Hat

Remember that bit of tape thats coming off the LED on the right side of your hat? Tape one end of the chopstick to that part with the copper tape. Your chopstick should be running parallel to your LED's now so it can cross the gap

Make Two Double Sided Pieces of Copper Tape

Cut 2 small pieces of copper tape and grab both your 3V batteries. Fold the tape in on itself so it becomes double sided and place one strip on the left hand side of your hat where the end of the tape is. Do the same with the other piece of tape but place on the positive side of one of your batteries.

Place the Batteries Into the Circuit

Take your battery that has the tape on the positive side and place the negative side down on the other piece of double sided tape. Then stack the other battery on top of it. You want both negative sides of the batteries to pointing down.

Finally Lift the Left End of the Chopstick and Place It on Top of the Batteries

Voila there is light! You can move the chopstick on and off the battery to make it turn on and off. Now you have something to let you be seen in the dark... should you want a chopstick and 2 small LED's on your head
