This is a prototype of a vertical garden that is going to be hanging from a balcony. It is creative and can grow lots of plants indoors or outdoors. Once it is created we are hoping the students at ESTEM will be using it a lot and it will hopefully grow food for the cafeteria.

Supplies

  • cardboard
  • Hot glue or/and duct tape
  • Paint
  • box cutter
  • ruler

Cutting Cardboard

Get some cardboard and cut out 3, 10 by 4 inch rectangles. And cut out 2, 4 by 4 inch squares.

Put It Together

Glue and tape your cardboard pieces together. Place one of your rectangles on the table. Glue the squares to the smaller side of the rectangle. (the 4 inch side of the rectangle) and glue the other two rectangles to the sides to create a rectangular box (without a top).

Cut Out and Glue More

Cut out 3, 10 by 1 inch rectangles. Glue them together so they go down like a stepping stair. Then cut out one more but instead 10 by 1 3/4 inches. Connect it to the bottom of the "stair" like hanger.

Paint!

Now you are all finished but all you need to do is paint. Paint with any color you would like. (You can also do this step before you glue everything together if it is easier).
