Hanging Globe Lamp With Fairy Lights Inside
Intro:
I was given a school project to create something and make an instructable on it. After looking through different Instructables for inspiration, I decided to do my own version of an upcycled globe lamp by advaym found here. Since I was going to be hanging it above my bed, I wanted to be able to turn it on and off at the click of a button instead of having to wire it up inside the ceiling.
Supplies
- 1 medium-sized globe
- 1 string of LED string lights
- Craft knife
- Double-sided tape
-Sharpie/marker
-Drill with a small drill bit
-Fishing Line
Remove Globe From Stand
When removing the stand from globes, we need to be careful. This is because there are usually two types of materials: either cardboard paper mache or hard plastic. As for me, I got a cardboard paper mache one, which seemed to make it harder to drill holes for step 3.
To remove the stand, simply lift the top peg and move it out and to the side of the top hole and the rest should simply follow after it. After removing the globe from its stand, it will be hard to keep ahold of so I recommend putting it inside of a small bowl to keep it steady.
Mark and Cut Hole
After removing the globe from its stand, we need to mark a hole. For me, there were already marks so I cut along the 45-degree marker and used a large box cutter to cut the hole. After cutting the hole, I simply threw away the bottom that I had cut off and kept the larger portion for the lamp.
Add in the Lights
Next up, we need to add the lights to the inside of the lamp using double sided tape. I taped one side of the tape onto the back of the lights before I stuck them onto the inside of the globe, about halfway away from the hole at the bottom. I then cut any excess, hooked them up, and tested them.
Side note: If I'm being honest, I attempted to use hot glue and gorilla glue before using the double sided tape and neither of them worked. To avoid having a screaming match with a globe and almost throwing it out the window, just use thin double sided tape used for electronics the first time.
Drill Holes
The last step is to drill the holes and add the fishing line. I drilled the holes into places that I wanted to visit in the future and then used the fishing line as an anchor to be able to hang it from my ceiling.
Finally Done!
And, it's done! You can now enjoy your globe lamp in all its glowy glory! Hang it wherever you please or sit it on a table so you can see through the holes that you drilled better. Either way, it will look fantastic and work perfectly too!
