Handpainted Wood Slice Ornaments

Making holiday ornaments on a budget is definitely a cinch with these easy Dollar Tree inspired idea using wood slice ornaments and a few brushes of paint!

• at least 2 packages of wood slices (one pack comes with 2 so you can make about 4 of them)
• an assortment of acrylic paints and brushes
• a drill with small bits (I am using a MagnaTools cordless drill)
• string (shown in the pink container)
• an image of designs to sketch on the slices
• pencils
• scissors
• Optional: Mod Podge (not pictured but more information on that in the next few steps)

First, open the packages of wood sliced and set them out. If you need to sand the fronts of them, feel free to do so.

Next, using a drill with either a HSS1.5 bit or HSS3.0 bit (I used both sizes), drill a hole on the top of each slice.

Now it’s time to add sketches of what you want to put on your ornaments. You can make any kinds of designs you want on these ornaments like these Disney character faces being made today! I used a projector to trace my images with my pencil but you can also draw them out freehand as well!

Now this is where the fun part really begins! Adding color to these ornaments can really brighten them up! There is also an option to seal the deal with some gloss or matte mod podge. They also look great without decoupage too!

Now you have to add string to hang them on the tree. Just thread a piece of string through the hole, tie it off, and cut off the excess.

Now they are ready to hang on your tree! They can also make for great gifts too!
