So about a month ago i started making a brick pizza oven from scratch. I recently finished it and i have made 3 attempts to make pizza so far. I'm working on that instructable as i have a bunch of video footage and info that needs to be edited. So follow me and look out for that instructable.

Anyways the key to making a good pizza is very high temperatures (which my oven can reach up to 1200F) Great dough / ingredients (still working on it) and great tools

Well one of the most important tools is the pizza peel.

You Will need very few things.

-SAFETY EQUIPMENT! (googles and gloves)

-Wooden handle

-stainless steel sheets (NO zinc plated or galvanized steel)

-drill and metal drill bits

-screws

-metal grinder

-Cutting wheels

-rotary sander and sand paper or metal files

Recycle Materials

So as soon as i finished making this peel i saw that there is a contest about recycling materials and i was super happy because pretty much everything in this project is recycled.

The main reason i decided to make all my tools is because i'm super broke after building a deck, a pergola and a pizza oven.

Pizza ovens cost about 30 bucks on amazon for the cheap wooden ones all the way to 200 bucks for aluminum and stainless steel ones.

So i went to the local hobby / surplus store named "skycraft" where they sell scrap and left over materials. Not sure where they get it but you can get stuff for cheap. i was able to get a 20 dollar A stainless steel sheet that i used to make all my tools and left me enough to make a pizza oven door.

I also had a broken rake with a nice thick handle that i cut into two pieces

Please make sure you dont use galvanized steel or zinc plated metals.

pizza ovens suppose to get really hot and when those type of metals get hot or burn they release some toxic chemicals and fumes and you dont want that in your food or oven.

Cutting and Safety Equipment

so this is very important! so please make sure you do this.

During making my deck, pergola and pizza oven i was able to not get injured or hurt myself. Except when using this angle grinder

As you can see on my videos my hands got grinded a little. it wasnt that bad but im pretty sure it's going to leave scars.

I used a cheap grinder and some cutting wheels to cut the pizza peels. However, when cutting the stainless steel the wheel tended to get stuck and roll on top of the sheet and cut my hand which was holding it.

Also the metal shards that come out flying while cutting will get stuck on your clothing (might burn it) and will do some heavy damage to your eyes. So i suggest wearing some kind of protection like long sleeve gloves, safety googles and maybe an apron.

Cutting and Sizing

So make sure you create some kind of templates to make sure your peel enters your door and fit's a nice size pizza on it. i didnt and eyeballed it and i made my peel too thin on the sides which limited the size of my pizzas. thankfully i had some more steel and more cutting wheels.

so i went back and i made a template for my pizza peel using fusion360 and planned my next peel using 3d

I cut the rake handle in half and predrilled some holes. and i was able to make two pizza peels from a piece of wood that would normally end up in the garbage

Clean Up the Edges and Enjoy Your Pizza

WHile cutting the metal sheets the edges will have some sharp shards and edges that can cut you or get lose in your food. So i used a rotary sander with some sanding paper to clean it up.. However when i ran out of sanding paper i used some metal files and they actually did a better job.

the stuff will get messy so make sure you contain the mess and metals shards in one place. cleaning it up it's a pain

Now i just have to wrk on my dough recipes and my pizza launching skills AKA deploying the pizza in the oven>
