Handbound Notebook/Sketchbook - Longstitch Binding
This sketchbook/notebook is my second attempt at longstitch bookbinding. I thought the typical longstitch "patterns" were a bit boring, so I made my own variation on longstitch.
The cover is made of some thin, flexible cardboard I found and the signatures are heavyweight paper.
I wanted my cover to have a wrap-around flap, and I also wanted to somehow integrate the the flap/closure into a decoration for the cover. I was thinking of embroidering a constellation on front, and then it hit me...use part of the constellation as a string closure! I just poked holes in the cover, embroidered the "handle" of the Little Dipper, and left a long tail of string. The "stars" are miniature brads; I stuck paper circles underneath the ones that were part of the string closure.
