Hand-Painted Cascade Flowers on a Glass Vase
Hi all,
I'm back with another DIY project, very easy to do, yet so colourful.
Give your old glass vase a brand-new life with this vibrant Floral Cascade design! Using just a black outliner and a few glass colours, you can transform a plain vase into a hand-painted home decor piece that adds elegance to any room.
This project is beginner-friendly, therapeutic, and surprisingly quick — yet the final result looks like boutique décor. Perfect for gifting or decorating
Supplies
1) Transparent Glass vase (old or new) - I'm repurposing the old one
2) 3d outliner - Black
3) Glass colours:
- Tomato Red
- Pink
- Sea Blue
- Green
- Brown
- Golden Yellow
4) Cotton cloth or tissue
5) Soap water (for cleaning)
6) Toothpick (for tiny detailing)
7) Small paper for rough sketch
Basic Design
Measure the vase and cut out the paper, now we are gonna draw our layout( you can print out the design if incase you are just starting out). I have sketched multiple flowers in cascade design with a touch of butterfly and we are gonna trace it on glass considering this a base design
Cleaning the Old Vase
This glass vase was gifted to me with this beautiful orchids few months back, vase contained water to keep the orchids fresh for more days, but later continuous water usage left lime stains in glass(hardwater), i have cleaned it using soap, sprayed rubbing alcohol to remove fingerprints. Vase is once again brandnew
Outline 3d Sketch
Now place the sheet inside the vase, start tracing using 3d liner, at first it is slightly challenging as you can't exactly as its inside as there is a thickness(glass in middle) but this is just get you going instead of free hand sketch straight on vase which is quite difficult for all beginners.
when one facing is done, let it sit for 2-3 minutes for drying and rotate the vase for sketching. Once all area covered remove the sheet
Pro tip:
1) Keep Your Hand Resting on the Table While Outlining
Gives more control and prevents shaky lines. Your outline will look professional & smooth.
2) Always start with big objects
Let's Stain
Once 3d sketch is fully dried, its time colour those beauties
Since colouring is the most fun part here, so choose colours that matches to you style and taste. I have started with 6 petal flower, gave yellow to center and tomato red for petals, followed by cherry blossom on top, gave green for all leaves, even for veins
Pro tip: Use thin layers of paints, it dries faster, if you feel its light apply second coat after 5 mins/ when the first coating is fully dry.
Butterfly
I wanted to give dual shade to butterfly, so gave pink and blue, when combined center part beautiful hue of purple.
Colour Theory
Even though we had limited colours, we can make more colours by combining two colours, here i have mixed red and yellow to obtain orange hue. Stunning !!
Fill the Flowers
So here in last round of painting, Gave purple hue to five petals flower.
All done now, this can be used as multipurpose decor
Flower vase, or fill it water and keep it under sunlight in balcony for it to fill your room with colours (suncatcher style), brush stand, penholder.
Thank You !!
You also put a cork light inside and keep it as decor in dining table for vibe setting. Try and let me know, how it works for you, if you try this kindly share your work. Please share your thoughts and suggestions in comment section. See you in next instructable.
