Hand Grip Wrap Assistive Technology
Workers with limited hand/finger grip strength can use the Hand Grip Wrap to hold tools, shovels, hoes, equipment levers, kitchenware, etc. The wrap can be made of cloth webbing or soft leather. It is first wrapped around the wrist, then around the knuckles of a closed fist, through the wrist wrap as shown, and back to the top of the hand. The longer the webbing, the more wraps around the knuckles can be added for a more secure grip.
Supplies
Strap and whatever item you need to hold
Wrap Strap Around the Wrist
Take a strap and put your hand through the hole. Then tighten the strap so that it fits snuggly around the wrist.
Grip the Tool Handle
Take the hand that has the strap on the wrist and wrap your hand around whatever item you need to hold.
Wrap the Strap Over the Knuckles and Tool Handle
Take the long part of the strap and place it over the top of your hand and your knuckles and wrap it underneath the item (so that most of your fingers wrapped around the item are between the item and the wrap).
Loop Strap Around the Back of the Wrist
Once the strap is covering the fingers, take the remaining strap and pull it through the space between the back of your wrist and the strap around your wrist.
Return the Strap Under the Tool Handle
Take the strap and go back under the item and then over your knuckles and the top of your hand so that the strap is now back at the top of your wrist.
Wrap Strap Around Front of Wrist and Secure
Pull the remaining strap through the space between the strap and the top of your wrist. The longer the webbing, the more wraps around the knuckles can be added for a more secure grip.
