This project was designed and completed by Rajdeep Summan and Colin Oliva. We drew inspiration from Strandbeesten (or Strandbeest in singular) which means “beach beasts” in Dutch. The originator is Theo Jansen who has created large moving kinetic structures that are sometimes wind-propelled and in that way able to move on their own since 1990. This project is meant to be a cool desktop piece that can be assembled together and has the ability to bring some character to any boring desk. The print time varies on different parts and it is recommended that you do not try to print all pieces on one go as that can result in warping and failure of prints. The pictures below show the design rendered in SolidWorks as well as a prototype(all yellow). The files for the prototype are NOT included as there were improvements made. The base includes 2 x 2 studs which can be used to attach any standard Lego piece such as an action figure or a technic beam.

Supplies

3D printer

Superglue for assembly

Sandpaper for smoothening parts

3D Print Files + Assembly

Here you can find all the 3D Print Files which include the individual parts as well as the Sub-Assemblies and the Master Assembly in STL format. Repositioning/reorientation may be necessary and do not print Strandbeest as assembly because the parts will be fused together. ENJOY!
