Ultimate Hamster Playground

This is a playground for hamsters. I have a Russian Dwarf Hamster named Nibbles, and he is the cutest animal EVER. This playground is easy to make and very fun for hamsters. Nibbles loves to play on this attraction. This is a good build for any sized hamster from a dwarf hamster to a Syrian hamster. The only modification for larger hamsters is to make a bigger hole in the hiding area at the bottom, and of course to decorate it more or put YOUR hamster's name and not MY hamster's name. :) Without further ado, let's learn how to make this playground.

Supplies

Cardboard - Needs to be strong

Hot Glue

A Hamster - Who else is this for???

A Box cutter Knife

Scissors

Twine - About 2 Feet (0.6 m)

Making the Hiding Hole

Take a long piece of cardboard and fold it in 3 parts — 2 for the sides and 1 for the top. Then cut two pieces of cardboard for the front and back walls, making sure that the front wall has an opening for the hamster to get inside. I glued these two pieces to the top piece.

Making the Climbing Walls

On both sides of the hiding hole, add some small pieces of cardboard and torn apart pieces of corrugated cardboard for your hamster to climb up.

Making the Second Level

To make the second level, cut a flat piece of cardboard and glue it to the top of the hiding hole. Make sure to add walls to two sides of the second level so your hamster doesn't jump off.

Making the Third Level

To make the third level, I cut a big piece of flat cardboard and made a small bridge to connect the second and third levels. On the third level, I walled in everywhere except where the bridge connects to the third level. To support this level I added three supports to the front right, front left, and back left corners.

Making the Wall

To make the wall, I cut a flat piece of cardboard and added a few pieces of small cardboard bits to serve as treads to make the wall easier to climb. To make the wall stable, on the back I added a support beam and glued a small ramp as a flat surface. I then angled the top, so I can put it on the three-level structure.

Making the Bridge

To make the bridge, I took 3 pieces of cardboard — 2 for the sides and 1 for the bottom. For the sides, I folded the cardboard into a support and the ramp part of the bridge. Next, I glued these to the bottom and cut a piece of cardboard into strips for the surface and glued these to the twine ropes on either side. I then added treads to the ramps to make them climbable for a hamster.

Putting It All Together

I put the bridge and the wall onto the house. I didn't glue them down, so they can be used in many different spots if I choose to move them. That is all that you need to do to make a hamster playground. I hope you and your hamster enjoy this fun project. :)
