Halloween Spooky House Sign Free DXF File

In this Instructable, I will show you all, how i made a Spooky House sign for Halloween. I have included the DXF file, for anyone that's interested.

What you will need:

CNC Machine ( I used the Xcarve CNC )

Cad/Cam program ( I used Vectric Aspire )

Cabinet grade Plywood ( I used Cabinet grade Pine Plywood from Home Depot )

Glow in the Dark paint

Red Craft Paint

Clear Laquear

Find yourself a picture on the Internet that you like, preferably black and white image ( or if you are real artist, draw one yourself ). Next import it into vectric Aspire, do a Trace on it, which turns it into vectors.

Once you have the image into vectors, adjust them to your liking and add objects and text. Also adjust the size, my stock was 23 1/2" x 23 1/2", so I adjusted it to fit into those limits.

Now we need to add some Toolpaths, I went with a Pocket toolpath, using 1/4" and 1/16" Endmills. The larger tool cleaning up most of the area, and the smaller tool finishing up the details, all at 1/16" deep.

Done another pocket toolpath for the Windows, going down another 1/16" deep. Also done a profile toolpath for the RIP text on the Tombstone.

Install a piece of Cabinet grade plywood onto the CNC machine, clamp down. Down the first carving, pocketed down to 1/16" deep with the 1/4" and 1/16" Endmills.

Now I applied a coat of Clear Lacquer to the parts that I was going to paint Black, overlapping onto the Top of the Plywood. This is to allow me to paint and don't have to worry about being perfect.

Allow the Lacguer to dry for about 1 hour.

Then I used some Black craft paint, to paint the areas that I carved out. Allow this to dry completely before going to next step.

Don't worry if you get some over the edges, that's why we applied the Lacquer.

After the Black paint dried, I reinstalled the board back into the CNC, and carved the Windows.

Note that I carved the Windows a total of 1/8" deep.

Then sand the top layer, until you get rid of all the Black paint.

After that blow off or wipe off real good.

Then I sprayed a coat of Rustoluem Matte Clear, over the entire piece.

Allow this to dry to can specifications, I allowed it to dry overnight.

Now it is time to paint the Windows, I used some Glow in the Dark Craft paint, hoping this will show up at night time.

Note put several coats of Glow paint, for a better affect, allowing each coat to dry first.

Apply another coat of Rustoluem Clear finish, attach hanging hardware, and enjoy.
