Halloween Party Bag

Quick, simple and colourful - these party loot bags can be whipped up in a matter of minutes.  I was able to make 12 out of 1 yard of fabric and 4 yards of ribbon.

A single bag can be done in 4 mins - if the fabric is cut to size in advance, your machines are threaded and your iron is hot!

What You Need

For each empty bag:

9" x 14" rectangle of halloween fabric - mine was 100% cotton fabric picked up at the quilt store
12" of ribbon - purple, orange or green all went well with my fabric
general purpose sewing thread - can match or contrast, it's your choice
sewing machine
overlocker - not necessary, but makes it even faster
iron & ironing board

To fill the bag:

Halloween sweets and toys

Sew It!

Turn a narrow hem along one long side of the fabric - this will be the top edge.

Fold the rectangle right sides together so the short edges are even with each other and the top corners meet nicely.

Fold the ribbon in half and tuck it inside the bag as shown with the fold even with the short sides.

Sew a 1/2" seam down from the top corner to the bottom corner, and then from the bottom outside corner to the fold.  Repeat 1/4" inside for extra strength if desired.

Turn It & Press It

Turn the bag right sides out and give it a quick press with your iron to make it look nice and crisp.

Fill It With Goodies

If you are hosting a party this is when you get to fill the bag with gruesome gifts - eyeballs, spiders, skeletons, body parts, rats.........

When you have run out of stuffing just tie the ribbons around the neck of the bag and it is ready to give someone a surprise.
